Kyle and Christie Duque, Owners, E2 Fitness Center in Lynden, WAWe love to move and are fascinated that, for some reason, we always find ourselves in motion. Are you like that? Our bodies are designed to move. We recognize that life’s situations require us to move in different ways, like safely carrying a child and a bag of groceries, or responding to the physical demands of being in the workforce. As we age, movement seems to get more challenging: standing from a seated position or navigating a flight of stairs. However, the truth still remains: our bodies need to move! Like any skill practiced repeatedly, exercise allows the body to perform with less effort when it is required to.

As children, we all move fairly effortlessly and almost constantly, but as we begin to age and develop, the requirements of life usually demand that we slow our play time and increase our work time. At some point, we realize a couple of things: we aren’t able to move like we used to and we want to restore that ability – or most of it! We all arrive at the threshold of our fitness journey at different stages and with a variety of destinations in mind. What stage we arrive in is less important than the fact that we arrive. Let me say that again in different words - regardless of our athletic abilities, we all need to practice moving our bodies with the focus less on where we are today and more on where we want to be.
 
The destination is your own personal goal. Some of us are student athletes trying to earn a spot on a varsity team. Some of us want to prepare for a fitness milestone or perform better in our sports. Some of us want to lose a little weight after a life event or in preparation for one. And others are recognizing the importance of a healthy lifestyle and need to change habits that have formed over the years. These are all great goals! The tough part is remaining committed until your goal is reached, which is where we can help!

Why Join the Movement?

From a pure physics perspective, one of the toughest things for the body to do is to change its inertia, that is bringing it from a resting or idle state into movement. Picture a sprinter when the gun goes off during the 100m dash -- idle to movement. Or a boat taking off from the dock with its bow in the air until it reaches its plane -- idle to movement. The same theme is true in our lives outside of a fitness setting. When we are trapped by our habits, it’s tough to change. We tell athletes we have worked with in the past to break their goals down into manageable steps. Don’t focus on how many miles have to be run today to stay on a plan, worry about getting out the door. Just take the first step. All too often we get in our own way of achieving our goals before we even start.  Who has ever said, “I’ll start my diet tomorrow,” or “I’m going back to the gym after this vacation,” or “I’ll get back on track when…”? Probably we all have. We get frustrated and discouraged because we don’t achieve our goals, when the truth is we never really started trying. The problem is not the goal (it’s probably achievable); it is a problem of not knowing the best way to achieve it.
 
We believe that the road to success (in your physical vitality, in your personal life, in your spiritual walk, in your business) should be lined with people who encourage, support and are excited about you reaching your personal goals. You’ve heard the saying, “It takes a village….” No professional athlete has ever become great without a network of accountability, coaches and support. No business has ever prospered as a result of a single person’s effort; there are advisors and a staff that have collectively “bought in” to the leadership and direction of the business. The formula for success is simple Goal + Plan + Execution = Success. The third step - execution - is the difficult part and is where accountability, encouragement and determination become critically important. 
 
Our mission is to provide a contemporary fitness training facility with the highest quality staff who are dedicated to helping members achieve fitness goals and milestones.  But our purpose is greater. Our purpose is to glorify God through the healthy use of our bodies, to be capable of serving others when called, and to build up the body of Christ through accountability and fellowship. Although we recognize that not all who come through our doors will share a common faith, we are committed to building lasting relationships with all of our members.
 
As we respond to God’s plan in our lives He will pour out His blessings on us and will strengthen and guide us according to His purpose. But we must be ready. We each possess God-given strengths and purpose. It is our responsibility to identify, nurture and mature those gifts in order to “…walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” (Ephesians 4:1) 
 
“The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.” (1 Corinthians 12:12)  As the body of Christ we are called to love and support all parts of the body to ensure it functions properly to the glory of God. Let’s not just do church on Sunday, let’s be the church - every day.
